Marlene S. Garvis is a partner with Jardine, Logan & O’Brien. Ms. Garvis focuses her practice on representing clients in litigation-related and administrative proceedings for employment, health law, professional liability, products liability, and licensing and disciplinary matters. Ms. Garvis also consults with clients on issues related to human resources, health care practices and patient care, health care plans, and related matters of concern. In addition to representing clients, Ms. Garvis is on the State Court Neutral Roster for Arbitration and Mediation.

Outside of work, Ms. Garvis is an active member of the legal community. Ms. Garvis is the first nurse-attorney and the first graduate of the Hamline University School of Law to hold the position. Ms. Garvis has also served as the President of the Hennepin County Bar Association (2006-2007), the President of the Hennepin County Bar Foundation (2000-2002) and President of Minnesota Women Lawyers (1991-1992) and is currently a member of the Minnesota Board of Continuing Legal Education, Ramsey County Bar Association, American Bar Association, Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association, The American Association of Nurse-Attorneys, Defense Research Institute, North Central Nurse Attorney Group (acting Chair), and the Warren Burger Inns of Court.

As an adjunct professor at the Hamline University School of Law and the University of Minnesota School of Nursing, Ms. Garvis uses her extensive background and experience in nursing to lecture on the complex relationship between the health care system and the law. In addition, Ms. Garvis has authored numerous articles on malpractice and legal issues in medical, nursing, and legal publications, as well as clinical articles in nursing journals.
